We treat problems of disabled persons very seriously. We will do our best to find the best possible solution in the current situation, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced during a meeting with local residents in Wegrow (central Poland) on Sunday.
PM Morawiecki declared that his political camp will take into account postulates voiced by various groups of disabled persons, including those made during the ongoing protest in the Sejm (lower house), in order to find the best possible solutions for all disabled persons.
Parents of disabled adults have been protesting in the Sejm since Wednesday, demanding bigger allowances for their disabled children. The protesting parents were visited by President Andrzej Duda and also held talks with Family and Labour Minister Elzbieta Rafalska as well as PM Morawiecki.
The prime minister stressed that his government treated problems of disabled persons very seriously and was of the opinion that "these matters should not be resolved in an ad hoc manner but in a perspective of many years."
"Over its first two years in office the Law and Justice government has spent PLN 1.1 billion (EUR 261.9 million) more to meet the needs of disabled persons, and this is an unprecedented increase in public outlays," Morawiecki said.
Referring to his earlier proposals regarding a planned tax on upper-bracket earners to finance an aid fund for disabled persons, the PM said that "the solidarity tax will only be felt by the 0.5 percent of top income earners."
Morawiecki added that the finance minister may manage to prepare first draft proposals in the next 14 days.
Asking whether intergenerational solidarity was to be an empty slogan and whether small villages and towns had the same development opportunities as big cities, PM Morawiecki stressed that both intergenerational solidarity and equal chances were very important.
Presenting the Law and Justice governments programme for the near future, the prime minister promised a PLN 300 (EUR 71.4) "back to school" bonus for all pupils below 18 years of age, and stressed that its introduction would be possible "thanks to his governments effective struggle against tax evasion."
PM Morawiecki also declared that as his political camp wanted "Poland to thrive in a year, in ten years, and also in one hundred years," it planned to introduce special maternity pensions for women, "who have four or more children, who have not managed to return to work and who are not entitled even to a minimum pension."
"We want Poland to develop, and not to shrink," the PM stressed.
Referring to healthcare spending plans, PM Morawiecki said the planned target was 6 percent GDP.
"Todays health spending amounts to 4.6 percent GDP, and we want it to reach 6 percent," the prime minister said, stressing that the Law and Justice governments predecessors spent 3.7 percent GDP on healthcare. (PAP)
