The three-day event, known as the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2018 and officially kicking off on Thursday, was billed as “the most important maritime event of the United Nations.”
Fifteen maritime ministers from countries including China, France and Portugal, were among those set to attend the event, which aimed to debate the challenges and ways of developing the global maritime business until Friday, according to public broadcaster Polish Radio.
The broadcaster’s IAR news agency quoted Poland’s Maritime Minister Marek Gróbarczyk as saying that the event offered “a great opportunity to promote the Polish maritime industry and talk about its development.”
The conference, held by the International Maritime Organisation, a specialised UN agency responsible for regulating shipping, and hosted by Poland for the first time, features a string of debates and plenary sessions scheduled for Thursday and Friday, IAR reported.
