    В Египте совместная франко-швейцарская археологическая экспедиция нашла около некрополя Саккара фрагмент обелиска из гранита времен Древнего царства. Обнаруженный фрагмент — высотой около 2,5 метров. По мнению ученых, примерно такая же часть обелиска находится под землей, информирует news.eizvestia.com. Отмечается, что обелиск был выполнен из массивной глыбы красного гранита. Канавка вокруг верхней части обелиска указывает на то, что он был первоначально покрыт медными пластинами или золотой фольгой, чтобы отражать солнце и ярко светить в течение дня. Это самый большой известный обелиск эпохи Древнего царства. Надпись на одной стороне обелиска указывает, что он был посвящен представительнице Шестой династии, Анхнесмерире II, родственнице нескольких фараонов, матери фараона Пепи II из Шестой династии. Она жила в середине XXIII века до нашей эры. «У правителей Шестой династии, как правило, было два небольших обелиска у входа в их погребальный храм, но этот обелиск был найден немного дальше от входа в могильный комплекс Анхнесмерире II», — сказал генеральный секретарь египетского Высшего совета по древностям Мостафа Вазири. As a film critic of medium-low importance, one of my most sacred duties is participating in the Washington Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) year-end awards extravaganza. During this hallowed time of year, I watch dozens of movies and mine my own recollection of the good, the bad, and the ugly to determine what, precisely, the best films of the year were. At the end of this grueling process—this death march through endless stacks of DVDs, searching for the rarest pearl in an ever-increasing sea of muck—we WAFCA members nominate up to five films/people in each category. The five films/people who earn the most votes in every category are then voted upon by the whole of the membership, the winners are chosen, the press release is sent out, and blessed, blessed relief descends upon us as we put the exercise to rest for 11 months.
