В столице Норвегии состоялась церемония вручения Нобелевской премии мира за 2017 год. Как было объявлено ранее, премию присудили Международной кампании по запрещению ядерного оружия (ICAN), передает РИА Новости. От имени организации ICAN награду приняли ее исполнительный директор Беатрис Фин и Сецуко Терлоу, пережившая атомную бомбардировку Хиросимы в 1945 году, активный участник кампании по запрещению ядерного оружия. «Риск использования ядерного оружия сегодня еще выше, чем в конце холодной войны. Но в отличие от холодной войны, сегодня мы сталкиваемся со многими другими государствами, обладающими ядерным оружием, сталкиваемся с террористами и кибервойнами», — сказала Фин. Во время своего выступления она призвала страны подписать договор ООН о запрете ядерного оружия. Нобелевская премия мира — единственная из пяти, завещанных Альфредом Нобелем, вручается согласно его воле в Осло. Награждения Нобелевскими премиями всегда проходят именно 10 декабря в день кончины основателя наград Альфреда Нобеля (1833−1896). Напомним, ранее Нобелевский комитет объявил имена лауреатов премии по физиологии и медицине. Ими стали трое американских ученых — 72-летний Джеффри Холл, 73-летний Майкл Росбаш и 68-летний Майкл Янг — за «их открытия молекулярных механизмов, контролирующих циркадный ритм». Циркадные ритмы — это циклические колебания интенсивности различных биологических процессов, связанные со сменой дня и ночи.

As a film critic of medium-low importance, one of my most sacred duties is participating in the Washington Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) year-end awards extravaganza. During this hallowed time of year, I watch dozens of movies and mine my own recollection of the good, the bad, and the ugly to determine what, precisely, the best films of the year were. At the end of this grueling process—this death march through endless stacks of DVDs, searching for the rarest pearl in an ever-increasing sea of muck—we WAFCA members nominate up to five films/people in each category. The five films/people who earn the most votes in every category are then voted upon by the whole of the membership, the winners are chosen, the press release is sent out, and blessed, blessed relief descends upon us as we put the exercise to rest for 11 months.
