Група американських дослідників, застосувавши нову технологію сканування, виявила прихований шар під одним із шедеврів Пабло Пікассо "Жебрачка, що сидить навпочіпки" (La Misereuse Accroupie), повідомляє ВВС.   Під верхнім масляним шаром вчені виявили пейзаж із зображенням Барселони, який Пікассо використовував як основу для своєї нової картини, що відноситься до блакитного періоду його творчості (1901-1904 роки).   Сучасний рентгенофлуоресцентний аналіз дешевший звичайних методів сканування картин, до того ж необхідне обладнання досить компактне, завдяки чому його легко можна доставити в будь-яку галерею.   Пейзаж, який переховувався під картиною і, ймовірно, створений студентом, був повернений художником на 90 градусів, і те, що було обрисами пагорбів, перетворилося в спину сидячої жінки. Вона набула форми й обриси каталонського ландшафту.     Куратор Мистецького інституту Онтаріо в Торонто Кеннет Браммел був надзвичайно втішений, дізнавшись, що ховається під знаменитим зображенням жебрачки.   "Це допомагає в датуванні картини, а також дає можливість встановити, де саме вона була написана", - пояснив він в інтервю BBC.   "Все це допомагає нам поставити нові, більш цікаві і, з наукової точки зору, більш правильні питання щодо художника і його творчого процесу, а також того, як саме він вибирає ту чи іншу форму, яку зрештою ми бачимо на полотні", - сказав куратор.   Нагадаємо, що один із найвідоміших портретів Пабло Пікассо "Сидяча жінка в блакитній сукні" був проданий на аукціоні в Нью-Йорку за 45 млн доларів.

As a film critic of medium-low importance, one of my most sacred duties is participating in the Washington Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) year-end awards extravaganza. During this hallowed time of year, I watch dozens of movies and mine my own recollection of the good, the bad, and the ugly to determine what, precisely, the best films of the year were.
