250 тысяч гривен за лучшую работу: раз в два года Pinchuk Art Centre награждает молодых украинских художников. На этот раз за премию в такую немалую сумму соревнуются 20 художников из 12 городов Украины. Победителей объявят вечером 23 февраля. А уже завтра работы современных украинских художников смогут увидеть все желающие. От стадионов, драк и зажженных факелов до автоматов, войны и образа защитника. "Дерзость и молодость" – так называется проект художницы из Днепра Юлии Кривич. Рассказывает, все началось со знакомства с днепровскими футбольными фанатами. Наблюдения переросли в художественный проект, который показывает, как менялись ценности молодых людей на фоне советской пропаганды. На фотографиях Юлии Кривич – карта Советского союза без Украины, поле, которое постепенно превращается в пиксели, оптические прицелы и татуированных парней. По словам художника Дмитрия Старусева, фотографии – визуализация эмоций. Художник по-особому увидел монумент дружбы на границе трех стран – Украины, Беларуси и России. К этим работам нужно относиться как к поэзии. Это не прямая фиксация реальности, – отметил Дмитрий Старусев. В центре внимания харьковских художников Даниила Ревковского и Андрея Рачинского – трамвай КТМ-5. Именно трамвай этой модели унес жизни 34 человек в городе Каменское в 1996 году. Тогда у него отказали тормоза. Самое ужасное то, что эти старые трамваи – до сих пор на линиях. Художники с помощью фото, видео и интервью исследовали, в каком состоянии они сегодня. Свой проект считают социально ответственным. Работы всех 20 художников так или иначе связаны с реалиями жизни в Украине. Социальные процессы документируют в нестандартной форме – звуки, видео, инсталляции. Однако часть работ и их ценность сложно понять. Авторы убеждают: искусство не требует объяснений, его надо почувствовать. Выставка в Pinchuk Art Centre будет работать до 13 мая.

As a film critic of medium-low importance, one of my most sacred duties is participating in the Washington Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) year-end awards extravaganza. During this hallowed time of year, I watch dozens of movies and mine my own recollection of the good, the bad, and the ugly to determine what, precisely, the best films of the year were. At the end of this grueling process—this death march through endless stacks of DVDs, searching for the rarest pearl in an ever-increasing sea of muck—we WAFCA members nominate up to five films/people in each category. The five films/people who earn the most votes in every category are then voted upon by the whole of the membership, the winners are chosen, the press release is sent out, and blessed, blessed relief descends upon us as we put the exercise to rest for 11 months.
