250 тисяч гривень за найкращу роботу: раз на два роки Pinchuk Art Centre нагороджує молодих українських митців. Цього разу за премію у таку чималу суму змагаються 20 художників з 12 міст України. Переможців оголосять ввечері 23 лютого. А вже завтра роботи сучасних українських митців зможуть побачити всі охочі. Від стадіонів, бійок і запалених факелів до автоматів, війни і образу захисника. "Зухвалість і молодість" – так називається проект мисткині із Дніпра Юлії Кривич. Розповідає, все почалося зі знайомства з дніпровськими футбольними фанатами. Спостереження переросли в мистецький проект, який показує, як змінювалися цінності молодих людей на тлі радянської пропаганди. На фотографіях Юлії Кривич – мапа Радянського союзу без України, поле, яке поступово перетворюється на пікселі, оптичні приціли і татуйованих хлопців. За словами художника Дмитра Старусєва, фотографії – візуалізація емоцій. Митець по-особливому побачив монумент дружби на кордоні трьох країн – України, Білорусі та Росії. До цих робіт потрібно ставитись як до поезії. Це не пряма фіксація реальності, – зазначив Дмитро Старусєв. У центрі уваги харківських митців Даниїла Ревковського та Андрія Рачинського – трамвай КТМ-5. Саме трамвай цієї моделі забрав життя 34 людей у місті Камянське 1996 року. Тоді у нього відмовили гальма. Найжахливіше те, що ці старі трамваї – досі на лініях. Митці за допомогою фото, відео та інтервю дослідили, в якому стані вони сьогодні. Свій проект вважають соціально відповідальним. Роботи усіх 20 митців так чи інакше повязані з реаліями життя в Україні. Соціальні процеси документують у нестандартній формі – звуки, відео, інсталяції. Проте частину робіт і їх цінність складно зрозуміти. Автори ж переконують: мистецтво не вимагає пояснень, його треба відчути. Виставка в Pinchuk Art Centre буде працювати до 13 травня.

As a film critic of medium-low importance, one of my most sacred duties is participating in the Washington Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) year-end awards extravaganza. During this hallowed time of year, I watch dozens of movies and mine my own recollection of the good, the bad, and the ugly to determine what, precisely, the best films of the year were. At the end of this grueling process—this death march through endless stacks of DVDs, searching for the rarest pearl in an ever-increasing sea of muck—we WAFCA members nominate up to five films/people in each category. The five films/people who earn the most votes in every category are then voted upon by the whole of the membership, the winners are chosen, the press release is sent out, and blessed, blessed relief descends upon us as we put the exercise to rest for 11 months.
