Polish-commemorative fountain pens on show
Over 70 fountain pens dedicated to Poland, Poles and Polish events, some made of silver or amber, others engraved or decorated with precious materials, are being exhibited in the Marshal Jozef Pilsudski Provincial and Municipal Public Library in Lodz, central Poland. The exhibition, entitled "From Gallus Anonymus to contemporary times - Poland described by fountain pen" is the result of the collectors passion of surgeon Prof. Andrzej Papiewski, who has been collecting fountain pens for over 20 years.   "Some of them can be regarded as real works of art," said Elzbieta Domagalska, manager of the librarys special collections department.   The exhibition presents 76 fountain pens from various companies, mostly limited editions. What makes each item unique is the diversity of forms and materials used for their production, but their main attraction is their dedication to Poland.   Poland is the main motto of the collection. As such, pens made by recognized Polish and global companies and dedicated to famous Poles or historical Polish events, are available to view.   Pope John Paul II is the figure to which pens are most frequently dedicated. In addition, the exhibition presents items dedicated to famous Poles in the areas of culture, the arts, science and politics, including Copernicus, Maria Curie, Jozef Pilsudski, Tadeusz Kosciuszko and Lech Walesa.   Among the fountain pens that certainly deserve attention is that dedicated to Fryderyk Chopin. The exhibit was made on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the composers birth.   The exhibition opened on April 12 and can be viewed until May 7. (PAP) mp/ej
