Американський письменник-фантаст і сценарист Джордж Мартін відклав вихід довгоочікуваної книги з циклу романів "Пісня льоду і полумя" під назвою "Вітри зими". Натомість він потішив фанатів іншою новиною: в серпні 2018 року у продаж надійде перший том "Полумя і крові" про історію династії Таргарієнів. Про це письменник повідомив у своєму блозі. "Ні, зима не приходить... Принаймі, не в 2018 році. Вам доведеться зачекати на "Вітри зими", – зауважив Джордж Мартін. За його словами, сюжет книги буде завязаний на історії династії Таргарієнів "від Ейгона I Завойовника до регентства Ейгона III – з їхніми дружинами, війнами, братами, сестрами, дітьми, друзями, суперниками, законами, подорожами і тому подібним". Тобто події відбуватимуться за 300 років до головної боротьби за Залізний трон. Вихід першого тому "Полумя і крові" запланований на 20 серпня 2018 року, тобто варто очікувати, що роман матиме своє продовженням в інших томах. Все це стане частиною всесвіту "Пісні льоду і полумя". Крім того, письменник пообіцяв, що в книзі буде багато драконів і ілюстрацій у виконанні художника Дeга Вітлі. Обкладинку та одну ілюстрацію він вже продемонстрував у своєму блозі. Хоч Джордж Мартін почав писати перший роман у 1991 році, серіал вийшов на екрани лише через 20 років – у 2011 році. Восьмий, останній сезон "Гри престолів", за чутками ЗМІ вийде в 2019 році. Однак події серіалу, який виходить на каналі HBO з 2011 року, вже обігнали сюжетні лінії, які описані в книгах. Тому сюжети шостого, сьомого та восьмого (останнього) сезону базуються на чорнових варіантах книг, які ще не вийшли, консультаціях Мартіна і сюжетних напрацюваннях авторів "Гри престолів".

As a film critic of medium-low importance, one of my most sacred duties is participating in the Washington Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) year-end awards extravaganza. During this hallowed time of year, I watch dozens of movies and mine my own recollection of the good, the bad, and the ugly to determine what, precisely, the best films of the year were. At the end of this grueling process—this death march through endless stacks of DVDs, searching for the rarest pearl in an ever-increasing sea of muck—we WAFCA members nominate up to five films/people in each category. The five films/people who earn the most votes in every category are then voted upon by the whole of the membership, the winners are chosen, the press release is sent out, and blessed, blessed relief descends upon us as we put the exercise to rest for 11 months.
