Уночі проти 23 травня у селі Вільхівець, що на Черкащині, на подвірї садиби-музею Вячеслава Чорновола невідомі зруйнували йому памятник і викрали бронзове погруддя. Як написав на своїй сторінці у Facebook його син Тарас Чорновіл, правоохоронці уже зайнялися цією справою та розпочали слідчі дії. "Погруддя ж спиляли просто й безперешкодно, бо музей не охороняється. Взагалі! Для цього нічого не передбачено. Те, що не обчистили саму меморіальну частину, то тільки тому, що для злодіїв там узагалі нічого цікавого нема, мабуть же приходили раніше, приглядалися", – підкреслив він. За його словами, насправді це не музей, але, так чи інакше, сюди щодня заходять чимало людей: був як шкільні екскурсії, так і відвідувачі з-за кордону. Немає в Україні жодного музею В’ячеслава Чорновола. Київський меморіальний, саме як музей, а не кімнату зі стендами, знищено кілька років тому. А музей у Вільхівці – це лише меморіальна частина: вчительська хата, в якій жили батьки та провів дитинство й юність він сам. Так ось, для незлічимих матеріалів, які ми могли б передати музею, є місце лише на кількох перекидних стендиках, які вдалося розмістити тільки на ґанку. Працюють у музеї (а він має статус державного закладу культури – філії черкаського краєзнавчого музею) лише троє людей: директор та дві жіночки, які водночас і прибирають, і територію утримують у належному стані, екскурсії проводять, – зазначає політичний експерт. Нагадаємо, на початку квітня у Києві невідомі викрали меморіальну дошку відомому режисерові та акторові Івану Миколайчуку, яка висіла на будинку, де жив митець. Хто такий В’ячеслав Чорновіл? Це український політик, публіцист, літературний критик, політичний вязень СРСР, провідник українського національно-демократичного визвольного руху кінця 80-х – 90-х років. Народився у 1937 році у селі Єрки на Київщині. Загинув унаслідок автокатастрофи на шосе під Борисполем 25 березня 1999 року. Його соратники заявляють, що це було політичне убивство, оскільки В’ячеслава Чорновола тодішня влада могла розглядати як небезпечного конкурента на майбутніх президентських виборах. Похований у Києві на Байковому кладовищі на центральній алеї. У похороні взяли участь сотні тисяч людей

As a film critic of medium-low importance, one of my most sacred duties is participating in the Washington Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) year-end awards extravaganza. During this hallowed time of year, I watch dozens of movies and mine my own recollection of the good, the bad, and the ugly to determine what, precisely, the best films of the year were. At the end of this grueling process—this death march through endless stacks of DVDs, searching for the rarest pearl in an ever-increasing sea of muck—we WAFCA members nominate up to five films/people in each category. The five films/people who earn the most votes in every category are then voted upon by the whole of the membership, the winners are chosen, the press release is sent out, and blessed, blessed relief descends upon us as we put the exercise to rest for 11 months.
