Піаніст Майк Кауфман-Портніков зобовязався сьогодні встановити рекорд України 12-годинним виконанням державного гімну в 72 варіаціях на підтримку 72-х українців, увязнених за російськими ґратами. Піаніст сподівається, що музика стане одним із поштовхів, який вплине на звільнення і повернення увязнених за політичними мотивами українців. У мене зявилась ідея таким чином доєднатися, бо люди сидять за гратами, бо сьогодні світовий день музики, бо є гімн України, який може їх звідти якось звільнити. Я на це надіюсь, принаймні,  – сказав Портніков. Акція єдності "Музика без кайданів" розпочалася на Майдані Незалежності о 10 ранку. Біля білого роялю – стенд із зображеннями українських політвязнів, які голодують у кремлівських застінках. "12-годинна подорож покаже красу і натхненність української нації" "Гра на роялі матиме більше впливу, аніж акції й мітинги, які просто обурюють людей, і ті вже викривлено сприймають ситуацію. Це культурна можливість не просто мітингами, а музикою зачарувати людей і підняти питання бранців. Зранку підійшла дівчина, яка не знала про увязнених, ніколи не чула прізвище "Сенцов". Але людина дізналася, зрозуміла і стояла поруч годину. Дехто сидів на рюкзаках або на землі і насолоджувався музикою", – каже волонтер Дарина. "Це культурна можливість привернути увагу до питання бранців" Книга рекордів Гіннеса України підтвердила готовність зафіксувати найдовший рекорд виконання одної композиції. "Все йде чудово, по плану. Майк виступає вже 8 годин", – говорить наглядач Єлизавета Боровцова.

As a film critic of medium-low importance, one of my most sacred duties is participating in the Washington Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) year-end awards extravaganza. During this hallowed time of year, I watch dozens of movies and mine my own recollection of the good, the bad, and the ugly to determine what, precisely, the best films of the year were. At the end of this grueling process—this death march through endless stacks of DVDs, searching for the rarest pearl in an ever-increasing sea of muck—we WAFCA members nominate up to five films/people in each category. The five films/people who earn the most votes in every category are then voted upon by the whole of the membership, the winners are chosen, the press release is sent out, and blessed, blessed relief descends upon us as we put the exercise to rest for 11 months.
