22 червня в Австрії у Інституті славістики Віденського університету було визначено цьогорічних лауреатів Міжнародної премії імені Івана Франка. Відповідна інформація з’явилася на сайті Міжнародного фонду Івана Франка. Як зазначається, у номінації "За вагомі досягнення у галузі соціально-гуманітарних наук" лауреатом переміг Йоганнес Ремі за працю "Брати чи вороги: Український національний рух та Росія, з 1840-х до 1870-х років", яку було визнано найкращою. У номінації ж "За вагомі досягнення у галузі україністики" перемогу здобула монографія «…І остання часть дороги. Іван Франко в 1908-1916 роках» авторства Ярослави Мельник. Зауважимо, що до складу міжнародного журі увійшло 12 вчених з університетів України, Австрії, Італії , Словаччини та Польщі, а переможці отримають грошову винагороду та золотий знак лауреата. Сама ж церемонія нагородження лауреатів Міжнародної премії імені Івана Франка відбудеться 27 серпня 2018 року у Дрогобичі на Львівщині – саме тут народився літератор. Що таке Міжнародна премія імені Івана Франка? Її було засновано у 2015 році онуком письменника Роландом Франком. Основною метою Премії є сприяння всеосяжному вивченню творчої, наукової, громадської діяльності Івана Франка, заохочення вчених з різних країн світу до проведення актуальних досліджень у галузі соціально-гуманітарних наук та україністики. Премія є щорічною та вручається 27 серпня – у день народження Івана Франка. У попередні роки її лауреатами ставали колишній очільник УГКЦ Любомир Гузар (2016 рік), професор Інституту славістики Віденського університету Міхаель Мозер (2017), заслужений професор ЛНУ імені Франка Олег Шаблій (2017).

As a film critic of medium-low importance, one of my most sacred duties is participating in the Washington Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) year-end awards extravaganza. During this hallowed time of year, I watch dozens of movies and mine my own recollection of the good, the bad, and the ugly to determine what, precisely, the best films of the year were. At the end of this grueling process—this death march through endless stacks of DVDs, searching for the rarest pearl in an ever-increasing sea of muck—we WAFCA members nominate up to five films/people in each category. The five films/people who earn the most votes in every category are then voted upon by the whole of the membership, the winners are chosen, the press release is sent out, and blessed, blessed relief descends upon us as we put the exercise to rest for 11 months.
