Открытие ученых из Бергенского университета в Норвегии приблизило время, когда диабет станет излечим: с помощью стволовых клеток им удалось научить клетки кожи вырабатывать инсулин. Об этом сообщает Science Daily. Ученые заявляют, что они уже близки к четкому пониманию того, как заставить клетки организма вырабатывать инсулин. Это собственно приведет к созданию клеток-дублеров, которые будут контролировать уровень инсулина человека. Теперь целью ученых является трансплантация этих клеток в организм людей, больных диабетом. Они хотят при их помощи полностью избавить пациентов от необходимости измерять уровень сахара и делать инъекции инсулина. Ученые уверяют, что вместо этого будут вживляться специальные капсулы, клетки в которых специально изготовленные для каждого человека. Эти капсулы и будут заниматься выделением инсулина и реагированием на изменение уровня сахара. Сейчас между учеными, которые пытаются представить лекарства от диабета, настоящая гонка. Происходит масса открытий, но до коммерциализации дело доходит редко. Хотя успешный продукт обещает и ученым, и фармацевтам огромные прибыли. В мире насчитывается более 400 млн человек, страдающих диабетом. Сегодня все способы контроля сахара для них несовершенны, а те автоматизированные устройства, что появляются и анонсируются, очень медленно доходят до рынка из-за регуляторов.
