Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has stressed the need to strengthen the Ukrainian army and switch it to the NATO standards.
"I believe in our army, it is in a better shape than ever, which is, by the way, an assessment of European think tanks. But there is still much work to be done to strengthen and modernize it, to get it fully compatible with NATO standards," the president said speaking at the military parade in Kyiv marking the Independence Day of Ukraine.
He stressed Ukraine is currently looking for efficient solutions "in order to deter in the long run the Russian army, which is largest in Europe and third largest in the world."
