'Alternative' Mejlis could be created in Crimea to evade implementation of ICJ judgments – Jemilev
The occupation authorities in Crimea could create an "alternative" Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people in order to bypass the implementation of judgments of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) canceling the ban on activities of the Mejlis on the peninsula, the leader of the Mejlis, Bloc of Petro Poroshenko MP Mustafa Jemilev, has said. "According to the information we have, they [the Russian side] began to consider how to satisfy the judgment of the International Court of Justice and at the same time do nothing. In particular, in relation to the Mejlis, they ask Moscow whether it is possible to create some sort of an organization that would be called 'the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.' Thus they want to declare that they have implemented the judgment of the International Court of Justice," Jemilev said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday. As reported, on April 19, 20017, the International Court of Justice, as part of the claim of Ukraine against Russia, adopted a decision according to which Russia should ensure the rights of the Crimean Tatars in Crimea, permit the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and ensure the accessibility of education in the Ukrainian language.
