 The European Union heads of state and government, who are meeting in Brussels on December 14-15, will hear reports from French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the implementation of the Minsk Agreements on Ukraine. Shortly after the summit, the leaders are expected to make an official resolution to extend the economic sanctions against Russia, according to papers related to the summit issued in Brussels on Tuesday. A high-ranking EU official speaking on condition of anonymity confirmed to journalists in Brussels that the leaders of Germany and France will present this information during a working dinner devoted to the issue of extending the sanctions. After the summit, the sanctions will be extended on the technical level, the official said. Another source in the EU Council told Interfax that this will be a six-month extension of existing sanctions, without adding more. The heads of state and government will take note of the French and German leaders' report, the source said, adding that there is unlikely to be any substantive discussion, since the matter is fairly clear.
