Head of the European Union Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli has admitted that there are difficulties in the implementation of the EU project, which provides for the modernization of six border checkpoints with Ukraine. "Indeed, we are faced with problems in the implementation of this cross-border project," said Mingarelli at a briefing in Kharkiv on Wednesday. He could not specify what exactly these difficulties were, referring to the fact that he does not directly participate in the project. However, according to Mingarelli, the EU did not take a decision on the curtailment of the project. "I cannot tell you that the decision to terminate this project has already been taken," he said. As reported, Reuters said on Tuesday that the EU is winding down the assistance program to Ukraine, within the framework f which it was ready to allocate EUR 29.2 million for the modernization of six border crossing points with Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland. Later on the same day, the State Fiscal Service (GFS) of Ukraine denied this information. "In connection with the appearance in the media of information on the termination of the EU financing of infrastructure projects on the Ukrainian border, the GFS reports that at the moment there is no such information ... The issues of further financing of reconstruction and construction of checkpoints by grant funds or due to the budget of the State Fund for 2018," the press service of the GFS reported. The department said that in November-December 2017, the GFS sent a final report on the status of implementation of projects to the Joint Technical Secretariat of the EU. It is expected to receive back information. "Given this, talking about the termination of projects and the need to return funds is premature and incorrect," the GFS said.
