The talks are to focus on bilateral collaboration within the fields of economy, regional security and global issues. Another issue to be discussed is collaboration within the UN Security Council, of which both countries are non-permanent members.
“The meeting of Polish and Ethiopian presidents is aligned with Andrzej Duda’s strategy on the international arena, the goal of which is to pursue Polish economic interests and action towards global security,” presidential chief of staff Krzysztof Szczerski said.
Teshome is also scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Senate Speaker Stanisław Karczewski.
Polish and Ethiopian delegates are to sign a letter of intent on bilateral collaboration in higher education.
Szczerski said that African countries should be perceived as an important partner for Poland and expressed hope that Duda’s actions will pave the way for closer contacts with African states. He added that Warsaw has a history in collaborating with partners from the African continent, and experience in doing so, alongside having a relatively dense network of embassies and an interesting offer for cooperation, also within the scope of economy.
Teshome’s visit comes a year after the Polish president paid a visit to Ethiopia, and marks the second trip of an African president to Poland during Duda’s term in office. (aba)
