Polish president back home from US, delayed by plane fault: report
Public broadcaster Polish Radios IAR news agency reported that the president, the First Lady and a delegation of officials were originally scheduled to land in Warsaw on Monday morning, but their flight from Chicago was cancelled due to a fault on their plane. IAR cited the Polish state-run airline LOT as saying that a communication system problem was detected in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane before it was due to take off from Chicago. The president and other members of the delegation were offered an option to rebook their flight for the next day, IAR said. The plane fault was the latest in a series of problems affecting Boeing 787 aircraft used by the Polish national carrier for trans-Atlantic flights, according to IAR. In late March, a LOT Dreamliner flying to Warsaw from Cancun in Mexico made an emergency landing in New York, IAR reported. Boeing 787s operated by LOT have repeatedly malfunctioned since the Polish carrier started using the machines at the end of 2012, according to IAR. LOT last month said it had ordered three new 294-seater Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets as part of an expansion drive. The new planes are designed to enable the carrier to increase the number of long-haul flights to the United States and Asia, according to reports. (gs/pk) Source: IAR
