Polish parliament passes resolution supporting political prisoners held in Russia The Polish Sejm adopted a resolution in support of Ukrainian political prisoners Oleh Sentsov, Roman Sushchenko and others.As reported by Censor.NET citing Ukrinform, 410 Polish lawmakers voted in favor of the resolution. "Filmmaker from Crimea Oleh Sentsov has gone on a hunger strike and is now dying in a Russian prison. Discussions are ongoing at many international platforms. Those Polish parliamentarians, who take part in them, should be supported with a strong resolution of the Polish parliament on this matter," MP from the Civil Platform Andrzej Galicki said before reading out the resolution. According to the document, the Parliament of the Republic of Poland appeals to the Russian government with a request to release all Ukrainian citizens who are held for political reasons in Russian detention centers and prisons. This prisons inmates are serving sentences for commission of grave and especially grave crimes. Sentsov was detained by the Russian FSB Security Service in Russian-occupied Crimea in 2014 together with activist Oleksandr Kolchenko. They were brought to Russia and tried in a trumped-up case on charges of organizing acts of terror and arson on the peninsula. On Aug. 25, 2015, Sentsov and Kolchenko were sentenced to 20 years and 10 years in prison respectively. On Oct. 21, 2016, Russia refused to extradite the two Ukrainians to Ukraine, claiming they had automatically acquired Russian citizenship after the annexation of Crimea.
