Energy, infrastructure and translatlanic ties important to Three Seas, says PM
Speaking at the summit in the Romania capital, which was attended by officials from the United States, the European Commission, and Central and Eastern Europe, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said the 12 countries that make up the Three Seas Initiative have strong ties with the US. “The Three Seas Initiative is proof that transatlantic ties are working well for a better world,” Morawiecki said. He also said that the 12 countries faced a “big” challenge. “We all agree that there is a need to create a shared, free gas market in our region,” the Polish prime minister said, adding that “an independent energy transfer system is necessary”. He also said that the region was developing quickly, with more than 67 transport projects and nearly 100 other infrastructure projects underway. He noted that five of the European Union’s nine major transport corridors would go through Three Seas Initiative countries. The Polish-led Three Seas Initiative aims to boost infrastructure, energy and economic cooperation among 12 countries between the Black, Baltic and Adriatic Seas. The initiative brings together Poland, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary. (vb) Source: IAR
