Germany went on to reclaim the title they won in 2014, while hosts France ended in third place.
Two early disqualifications for Poland – in the women’s 100m hurdles where Karolina Kołeczek false-started – and in the men’s 800m where Adam Kszczot’s victory was annulled for stepping off the track “might have been crucial”, the competition’s website said, adding that “in the end, even two extra victories would not have altered the overall result.”
In the end, Poland garnered 25 points, 26.5 less than Germany and 25 points more than France. So far the best result of Poles at this event was third place in 2014.
The competition has been held since 2009. (rg)
