Poland won against Serbia in the opening match of the World Championships three years ago.
Michał Kubiak, captain of the Polish squad, has said that the match against Serbia has been "long and impatiently awaited".
The teams coach, Ferdinando De Giorgi said: "We know Serbia is a strong team and ... the match will be tough. But we have worked long and we believe in our team and know what we are capable of".
The 2017 European Volleyball Championships, or EuroVolley 2017, will see 36 matches held in Warsaw, Kraków, the northern city of Gdańsk, Szczecin in the north-west, and Katowice in the south until 3 September.
Italy, Russia, France, Serbia, Germany, Bulgaria, Belgium, Finland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Spain and Turkey will join Poland in the battle for the European championship title.
As well as Serbia, Poland will play against Finland and Estonia in the group round of the tournament. (vb)
